Dr. Camran Nezhat
Dr. Camran Nezhat, MD, FACOG, FACS is an internationally renowned Laparoscopic Surgeon, scientist and innovator at Stanford University Medical Center. He has been practicing medicine and surgery at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto since 1993. He is the Deputy Chief of the Department of OB/GYN, Clinical Professor of Surgery and Clinic Professor of OB/GYN at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. He is also the Clinical Professor of OB/GYN at the University of California in San Francisco, California and the Director for the Center for Special Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgey in Palo Alto, California.
He is the pioneer and leading practitionefr in the field of laparoscopic surgery, specializing in laparoscopic treatment of severe endometriosis involving multiple organs, management of infertility and other pathologies.
Dr. Nezhat has been called the father of modern day laparoscopy due to his numerous innovations and inventions in the field of minimally invasive surgery. His techniques, foresight, innovations and courage have revolutionized modern day endoscopic surgery, which has been called the most significant advancement in surgery since the discovery of antibiotics.
Among his other accomplishments, he is the forerunner of the technique of video laparoscopy and is the first surgeon in the world to treat and report surgical management of extensive pathology laparoscopically, thus opening the road for surgeons all over the world to follow. Dr. Nezhat has been performing and teaching surgery at Stanford University Medical Center since 1993. Over the years more than 10,000 surgeons have attended his post graduate courses, seminars and teaching sessions. He has co authored 3 text books and over 500 scientific articles, book chapters, abstracts, editorials, and other publications.
He is Fellowship Director, Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery and the past president of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, former member of the board of Stanford University Medical Center.
He has received numerous awards from leading medical societies like the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Reproductive Medicine, American College of OB/GYN and American College of Surgeons commending his surgical skills, pioneering surgical techniques, research and educational activities.
Dr. Nezhat is co-founder of the PARSA Community Foundation and is active in various charities, including Child Family Health International, and has traveled to many underdeveloped communities and countries to teach and perform surgery.
