- Foundations and corporations have committed more than $100 million to address the economic crisis, according to Steven Lawrence, the senior director of research at the Foundation Center. - Slate magazine and the Chronicle of Philanthropy publish the annual "Slate 60," documenting the largest American charitable contributions of the year. 2008's top sixty donations total $15.78 billion, compared to $7.79 billion in 2007:
