2010 Census Forms On Their Way!
2010 Census Forms Are On Their Way to Your Homes
Don't Forget to Complete and Return Them!
March 15, 2010 - The Iranians Count 2010 Census Coalition ("ICCC"), in an effort to ensure that statistics for the Iranian-American community are accurately reflected in the upcoming 2010 United States Census ("Census") would like to remind everyone that the 2010 Census forms are expected to start arriving in your homes between March 15-17.
All Iranians / Iranian-Americans, regardless of immigration / citizenship status, are encouraged to complete the form completely and respond to question #9 by marking "some other race" and writing in "Iranian" or "Iranian-American".
The completed 2010 Census forms should be returned by April 1.
WHY PARTICIPATE IN THE CENSUS
POWER: In a democracy, power comes from numbers. After the 2000 Census, the official number of Iranians/Iranian-Americans in the United States is 338,000. However, we believe the actual number is 3 or 4 times that amount.
MONEY: Each year $430 billion of the U.S. budget is influenced by census data. That's over $4 trillion in the next 10 years.
INFLUENCE: Politicians, businesses, schools, cultural institutions, government agencies, financial aid, civic centers, and more depend on public census data to tailor their services to each community.
OPPORTUNITY: Census happens once every 10 years. If we miss this opportunity to be counted, we have to wait until 2020 to try again.
SAFE: Individual census data is absolutely confidential. It can never be shared and cannot affect your immigration status in any way. Read More
IMPORTANT: Getting us all counted for Census 2010 is easily the most important thing you can do for yourself and all Iranians in the next 10 years.
These efforts are extremely important since the Census provides the Iranian community in the United States the opportunity to stand up and be counted.
