Featured Organization: Moms Against Poverty

Moms Against Poverty (MAP) is a grass-roots nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was founded in 2008 by a group of compassionate Iranian American mothers who were concerned about the lives and needs of disadvantaged children across the world. MAP's mission is to advance the quality of life for children facing extreme poverty through education and improved health services.

Moms Against Poverty was co-founded by Delfarib Fanaie, a remarkable leader who adopted two daughters and a son from orphanages in Iran. Through her personal experience and her mission to educate the community on the complex but rewarding process of adoption, she has inspired numerous Iranian American families in the Bay Area to successfully complete the adoption process.

Currently, Moms Against Poverty operates in three countries - the United States, Cambodia and Afghanistan - where the organization’s leaders collaborate with local organizations to identify and provide both immediate and long-term needs, including health, immunization and education programs. MAP plans to add two more countries to this list in 2010.

Most recently, the organization hosted a successful fundraiser on October 3rd that raised over $68,000. The event lasted until the early hours of the morning and brought in several hundred attendees. Moms Against Poverty is run entirely by volunteers and over 95% of MAP’s income goes directly to children and their needs. Learn more at momsagainstpoverty.org.
