Eastern Arts mission is to foster understanding and awareness of cultures of the Persian world sphere through presentations of “time-honored” traditional music, dance and other arts. In today's world where misunderstandings exist, we believe it is important to promote the valuable traditional arts of Iran and neighboring areas once part of the Achaemenian Empire.
The Society for Preservation and Propagation of Eastern Arts was conceived in 1960 in Paris by Lloyd Miller with inspiration from Master Dr. Daryush Safvat who was Persian music instructor at the Centre d’etude de musique orientale Shortly thereafter, Miller founded Eastern Arts in Utah and after returning to Iran in 1970 for 7 years patterned the organization after Dr. Safvat's Center for Preservation and Propagation of Iranian Music. “Dedicated to preserving and promoting time-honored traditions,” Eastern Arts has a long continuous history of educational presentations of traditional performing, visual and literary arts of cultures influenced by the Persian world sphere. Programs have been presented throughout the state, mainly in the Salt Lake Valley; though Eastern Arts members have appeared as invited guests for concerts, lectures and workshops at various locations throughout the US and Europe. | |
