Omid's mission is to strengthen the social, emotional, and economic competencies of disadvantaged young women (aged from 15 to 25) in Iran, providing them with a sense of self-worth and with the opportunities to experience a full range of life options through self-empowerment, education and training.
Omid’s two and a half year program takes place at our centre in Tehran, where we provide a welcoming and containing social environment, psychological and personal development through therapeutic interventions and workshops, social and recreational activities to facilitate social integration and readjustment, and structured educational and vocational training. The process starts by creating a warm, secure, and non-judgmental environment in which our clients immediately begin to experience what it feels like to have the value of their lives affirmed, and to be treated with respect, dignity, and kindness. Through therapeutic intervention and workshops we help our clients develop individual resilience, self-efficacy, and a sense of future. It is towards the end of this phase that we are able to assess the potential of each of our clients and guide them towards a suitable track for the next phase where they have to select the field of their advanced training or longer term education program. Each client then selects a more advanced vocational or professional training program such as IT, accounting, secretarial, architectural drafting, etc. The therapeutic aspect of the work ranges from straightforward counselling to more innovative therapeutic approaches such as creative writing classes, theatre and photography workshops. At the end of this process each client is placed in an appropriate job in a prominent Iranian organization where she is monitored by us for another 6-12 months. We are a non-political organization, operating through three registered charities: - Omid-e-Mehr Foundation (charity registered in Iran, registration number 18047), is the operating entity in Tehran. - Omid Foundation USA (501(c)(3) tax exempt charity registered in the USA, EIN no. 90-0406873, OFAC license issued by the US Treasury, license no. IA-11134), is responsible for awareness- and fund-raising in North America. - Omid Foundation (charity registered in the UK, registration number 1115318) is responsible for awareness- and fund-raising in the rest of the world. | |
