Americans for Informed Democracy empowers young people in the United States to address global challenges such as poverty, disease, climate change, and conflict through awareness and action. AID promotes just and sustainable solutions at the campus, community, and national level. Our vision is that every American young person is empowered to effectively contribute to peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable solutions to the world's greatest challenges.
Americans for Informed Democracy is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization in Washington D.C. We host summits and leadership retreats that educate young leaders about the interconnectedness of our world, connect these leaders with global experts and campaigns, and provide them with a comprehensive package of leadership and messaging guides that train them to be effective organizers and advocates in their communities. We then support these empowered leaders as they coordinate local campaigns and host town hall forums and videoconferences that connect their communities to global issues. Our network includes more than 20,000 young leaders on over 1,200 university campuses, and young professionals in cities across the U.S. Our campuses range from Bob Jones University to University of California-Berkeley and our students work in coalition with civic, religious, cultural, academic, greek life, and advocacy organizations. AIDemocracy works on five primary issues: - Global development (including poverty-alleviation, fair trade, human rights, and access to resources) - Global health (including HIV/AIDS, malaria, and maternal and child health); -Environmental protection (including reducing carbon emissions and our dependence on oil); - Hope Not Hate; and, Peace and security (including the U.S. role in the U.N., the International Criminal Court, and nuclear weapons). Our Hope Not Hate programming includes an Arts and Culture sub-program that focuses on building peace through cultural diplomacy |
