World Music Institute is a not-for-profit concert presenting organization dedicated to the research and presentation of the finest in traditional and contemporary music and dance from around the world. WMI supports and encourages musicians from immigrant communities and collaborates with universities, cultural organizations, and other presenting organizations that have similar goals. WMI:
* Encourages cultural exchange between nations and ethnic groups
* Supports traditional music by providing opportunities for visiting and for local artists
* Presents to the American public the finest in traditional and contemporary music and dance from around the world
* Collaborates with community and cultural organizations and academic institutions in fostering greater understanding of the world's music and dance traditions and its impact on their audiences.
World Music Institute (WMI), founded in 1985, presents approximately 60 concerts a year in New York of traditional and contemporary music and dance from around the world. Since its inception, WMI has been at the forefront of presenting and bringing artists from Iran to North America from regional masters to many of Iran's most prestigious classical artists. | |
